2022

A Spring Concert 2022

A concert was planned on the 30th April 2022 in the Great Hall of Highlands College with the Les Conteurs Singers due to the unavailability of all the resources necessary to perform Haydn’s Creation on this date.

After the concert, we were very pleased with how it went.  There was a lovely atmosphere in the Hall (something many people commented on as they came in) and the audience really enjoyed the occasion.
The choir sang very well which was testament to the hard work put in by all concerned and it was a very powerful and moving end to the evening to have the two choirs come together for those final two items. Positive feedback was received from those who were in the audience about how it all went and how the Choir sounded.

Photographs of the two choirs on the evening may be seen below.

Liberation Day 2022

Liberation Day 2022, the 77th anniversary of the liberation of Jersey from Nazi Germany, was an even more special event than normal due to the relaxation of the social measures that had been in place for the previous two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. The choir typically plays a part in the festivities by assisting in the community singing. Pictures of the event can be seen below:

‘The Creation’ by Joseph Haydn

Saturday 22nd October 2022 at 7.30pm at St Helier Methodist Centre

The programme for the event is here

The Creation (German: Die Schöpfung) is an oratorio written between 1797 and 1798 by Joseph Haydn (Hob. XXI:2), and considered by many to be one of his masterpieces. The oratorio depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis. The libretto was written by Gottfried van Swieten.

This concert was originally scheduled for Saturday 25th April 2020 at 7.30pm however it was postponed due to the COVID-19 virus. Pictures of the successful concert which finally took place on the 22nd October 2022 can be seen below. It was a special privilege to be led  by a Jersey-born conductor James Southall with soloists Karla Grant, Soprano, Seumas Begg, Tenor, Robert Rice, Baritone and the St Cecilia Orchestra.

13th December was the Charity Soup Kitchen in the Royal Square -when the choir sang from 1300-1330
It wasn't warm!

The Festival of Carols at St Thomas church took place on the 14th December 2022 and it was a relief that have a semblance of normality despite the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic was still causing concern for some people.
The church was almost full with the vast majority of seating taken and the choir was able to enjoy the traditional reception after the event which was well received by the choir members.
